Rakaposhi NW Ridge: the challenge has been accepted!
Nov 10, 2004 17: 43 EST
At ExplorersWeb we are convinced that climbing is far from ‘dead’. Amazing challenges still await the braves on the high mountain ranges of the world.
To prove it, and to offer options for those looking for real adventures, we’ve lately published feature stories and series about some of the most attractive mountains and/or greatest challenges in the world. Chogolisa, Pumori, Cerro Torre, winter climbs… and Rakaposhi.
The challenges are now quickly finding takers. The very next day after we published the last part of the Rakaposhi series - we received this email signed by Alberto Peruffo, from Italy:
”Dear friends of ExplorersWeb.com:
About Rakaposhi I'm glad to inform you that a very strong Italian team will be on the NW ridge Rakaposhi next season, unless unforeseen events prevent it.
The team, which I will lead, is specialized in explorative mountaineering and have prepared the expedition since 2000, since my last expedition in Pakistan.”
Peruffo was part of the “Chiantar 2000” expedition to Pakistan Hindu Kush. The team was lead by Franco Brunello and explored the isolated Chiantar Glacier in August, 2000 - summitting some of the surrounding unclimbed peaks.
The longest ridge in the world remains unclimbed. The latest serious attempt took place in August 2001, by a skilled French team.
