Massive Summit Push at K2
09:18 a.m. EDT Jul 27, 2003
Preliminary reports reached ExWeb this afternoon that 9 climbers, made up of the international team Urubko, Moro, and Ochoa, the first Kazakh group Zhumayev, Pivtsov and Chumakov, and the Czechs Minarek, Jaros and Masek should have made CII as planned. Today the teams plan to continue to C3. Tomorrow they hope to establish C4 and push for the summit Sunday.

A second push is made up of another 6 climbers; the second group of Kazakhs Lavrov, Raspopov, Bogomolov;Tortladze and the Andalusian climbers Miss Amparo Ortega and Jorge Vásquez. Those climbers are expected to move to CIII early tomorrow. Their summit push should take place Monday. That's around 15 climbers pushing for the K2 summit this weekend.

Nobody summited K2 last year, but this year looks promising as most climbers in the current push recently summited one or several of the nearby 8000+ peaks.

No news yet of today's summit push at GII.
