K2 SUMMITED!
Agu 9, 2004 15: 26 EST
The curse is broken – we just received word that Silvio Mondinelli and Karl Unterkircher of the Italian team summited K2. This is the first summit in three years. The Italians marked the 50th anniversary of the first K2 summit in style!
Last reported, these two were just 10m ahead of the rest of the Italian summit group as well as the Al Filo team!
Congratulations! This summit is not over yet, though – they’ve still got the descent and now it is after 4 in the afternoon. A haste descent is of the essence. The latest word on the weather was that things were optimal – a serene sky and lowering wind speeds. Lets hope this continues through their return to Camp IV.
