Ireland K2 expedition leaving town Sunday
Jun 3, 2005 19: 56 EST
There has not been an Irish person on the summit of K2. The first attempt was in 1998 but was unsuccessful. This season, Terence 'Banjo' Bannon will give Ireland another shot at the Mountaineer's mountain.
Well, the Irish K2 2005 Expedition is ready to go! "We are prepared mentally and physically," writes the team, leaving for Pakistan 5th of June: "We would like to wish all the adventurers where ever you are to 'Follow your Dreams'."
Meanwhile, you can also follow the guys progress on their website (links section).
Go Banjo!
In 2003, Banjo climbed Everest from the North side with the Northern Ireland Everest Expedition, organized by Jamie McGuiness/Project Himalaya (currently on Everest).
Banjo reached Everest summit with no sherpa. This summer, he will attempt K2 on the south east (Abruzzi) ridge. Although the permit is for 12 members, Banjo will climb alone and without oxygen. He has four climbers coming with him, but they won’t be attempting the summit.
