Inshallah for Good Weather on K2
image story

Jul 21, 2004 12: 06 EST
“The weather has been quite bad for the last 8 days; a lot of wind and also snow. You know, everybody - especially those with the commercial expeditions that will have to leave at the end of the month - are getting a little bit nervous," said Valen Giro, the communications director for the K2 Magic Line team.

"The people climbing the Abruzzi Spur need a 'window' of at least 3 days of good weather and no wind above 8,000 m – and as soon as possible too." Valen wrote in his latest email. "Lets see if this 'window' of good weather is confirmed for the weekend." According to today's forcasts, something near to a 'window' of good weather will be around till Sunday evening.

"For us," Valen continued, "the situation is a little bit different. We almost have Camp 2 installed at 6,900 m. and we need this window of good weather to continue our progress on the Magic Line and install Camp 3 at the Pulpit (7,500 m.). Then we will go down to Base Camp to have a good rest and wait for the next "window", probably at the beginning of August; "In-shal-lah!"

With 5 days of stable weather, we can plan an attack; climbing up to Camp 3 and then in alpine style to the summit - probably 1 or 2 bivouacs will be required between the Pulpit and the summit (8.611 m.).

Let's see how things go in relation to the weather.”
