An interview with Edurne Pasaban
13:50 p.m. EST Mar 3, 2004
On May 28, The Basque climber Edurne Pasaban, 30, will depart for Pakistan, where she will try to climb K2 by the Abruzzi spur. Edurne's expedition is endorsed by the At the Edge of the Impossible (Al Filo de lo Imposible) of the Spanish TV network TVE.
The expedition will not only climb the mountain, but also add to its difficulty when documenting it for television. To make this happen, the program has accumulated some of the most prestigius names in Spain: At the fore front, Juanito Oiarzabal, the 8000+ summit record (20) holder, and also Ferrán Latorre, Juan Vallejo and Mikel Zabalza.
The Madrid team of MountEverest.net got an interesting interview with Edurne, published yesterday. Check in here tomorrow for the English version.
With her summit of Hidden Peak last year, Spanish/Basque Edurne Pasaban joined the top 4 lady 8000ers summiters of the world. The list is crowned by mountaineering legends Wanda Rutkiewicz, Pl (8) and Chantal Mauduit, Fr (6) who both tragically perished in the mountains.
After failing Dhaulagiri in 1998 and Everest in 1999 Edurne had a streak of successes: Mount Everest 2001, Makalu 2002, Cho Oyu 2002, Lhotse 2003, Gasherbrum II 2003 and Gasherbrum I 2003. Edurne has reached the top of the list in a record speed. Three ago she had not yet stood atop her first 8000er! Last year, she scaled three 8000ers in just a couple of months.
