Amical Alpin on GI and GII: summits!
Jul 27, 2004 09: 48 EST
Carlos Pauner was not alone when he summited GI yesterday. Both his climbing mates, Raquel Pérez and Willie Barbier, made it to the top as well, along with the
Amical Alpin team. German climber Ralf Dujmovits , Austrian Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and Japanese Hirotaka Takeuchi summited Hidden Peak (GI) on that same Morning.
Ralf has now bagged his 10th 8000+; GI is the 6th for Gerlinde and 6th for Hirotaka. Along with them were Austrian Peter Fessler and Pakistani Qudrat Ali.
Gerlinde planned to attempt both Gasherbrum I and II, and then head for K2, but poor conditions and weather have delayed climbing for weeks.
The rest of the Amical Team had their goal on Gasherbrum II. They reached the summit yesterday, August 26th. Summiteers were Amical guide Hajo Netzer (Germany), Alois Kari (Germany), Josef Lurz (Germany), Erich Weitlaner (Austria). GII is Hajo’s 3th 8000+ peak.
Yesterday, Carlos Pauner bagged his fifth 8000+ summiting Hidden Peak. Alberto Iñurrategi and Jon Beloki reached the top of Gasherbrum III; its second ascent ever.
Ralf, Gerlinde and Hirotaka summited Annapurna last Spring by its north side, after a serious attempt to Shisha Pangma south face.
Ace female climber, Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner has summited Cho Oyu, Makalu, Manaslu, Nanga Parbat, Annapurna and most recently Gasherbrum I - thus making 6 8,000ers.
Gerlinde is considered one of the top female high altitude climbers and is the 6th women to ever reach Anna's summit. She also has Shisha Pangma Central and Broad Peak foresummit.
Ralf Dujmovits is the leader of Amical Alpin and has summited Dhaulagiri, Everest, K2, Cho Oyu twice, Shisha Pangma, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum II, Nanga Parbat in 2001 and Annapurna, before. He now has 10 8,000ers.
Japanese climber Hirotaka has summited Makalu, Everest, K2, Nanga Parbat in 2001, and most recently Annapurna and now GI. He summited Everest and K2 back to back in 1996 and became the youngest ever to summit the world's two highest mountains at the age of 25. He now has 6 8,000ers.
